And by the way - I would'nt say that bravery has an impact in this quest, or what?

@ Ullandon
why would u go after 20 shield in a str test with that person. if it been a int or leadership test he would get 20... but he "only" got 6 in str.?

Has anyone sent a hero with an AXE? Surely it would be hard to break the bark with a staff or morning star for example. We came, we saw, we ate all the bananas

This is my quest for this week too. I have sent this orc:
HP: 186/205 Strength: 15 Dexterity: 11 Intelligence: 11 Leadership: 7 Bravery: 9 Toughness: 13 Swiftness: 11 Sum: 77 Morale: soaring
16 shields at level 2.
Seems like strength is not the only required attribute.

Intelligence and Strength are important, and I imagine having the right melee weapon helps. I would personally want an axe to cut bark off a tree, as it would be less apt to break and be less likely to wear me down. And I would definitely want my morale to be Soaring - (perhaps a night at the Tavern is the best booster due to the Dionysian nature of the Pan/faun creature!)
I have seen reference to different Levels of Quest, but how do you find out if you if it is a Level 1 vs Level 4 Quest, etc? Is it all gut instinct and clues like the phrase "unimaginable treasure" in this Quest? Or is there an ordering somewhere?

You choose the level of the quest yourself. But you have to have completed 7 level 1 quests before you are able to choose a level 2 quest. The quests are the same but the higher levels of quests require highjer attributes but the also reward you with more experience gold and sometimes disciples. Also note that sending a hero on a quest will instantly boost his morale. So, you might as well send a low level hero who is composed or a higher level hero who is elevated or exalted. The weapons for the heroes only matter when a battle is to be fought in the quest. Path to Pelantas - a fantasy browser-based game (PBBG).

Edit: the exersion of cutting bark or the journey did not in any way make my hero lose HP.
OK. My Level 1 quest is done and was a Success!
Elf Level:2 HP:138/138 Morale:Soaring Seasons:0 (+days)
Strength:7 Dexterity:5 Intelligence:7 Leadership:4 Bravery:5 Toughness:4 Swiftness:2 Sum:34
Always over-thinking, I picked an elf (an elf is sublime in a forest!) with the Battle Axe as his melee weapon (based on his task).
He got 18 shields of 20, and my elf was kind of struggling, but he won!! I got 96 Gold, but no Disciples with only a 4 in Leadership.
